Small Tree

Small tree looking up
To where the parents once stood
Tall shadows once cast
They disappeared so fast

To the moose and white-tailed deer
To you we did feel very sorry
Your safe shelters are in ruins
We extracted our quarry

All the time in the forest
Whispered in between the branches
All the time went unnoticed
The answers for mankind
A mother cries goodbye
A thousand species everyday
The sound is lost in the fray
The engine roar of corporate greed

There were some who held hands
They camped in the wood
In peace for the trees
They bravely once stood

I was a child when he said
He spoke for the trees
Then we all watched in horror
We sank to our knees

What's gone is gone
Money spent is spent
Desert wasteland left
For generations next

Big wheels keep on turning
Beds left to burning
Dust bowls and smoke
Bottom lines are blurring
