State of Hip Hop
The state of hip-hop, it's completely messed up
Rappers selling out to record labels for big bucks
And fame, letting egos go to their brains
Then they're homeless and poor and it's a complete shame
Every song on the radio is all about the mood
Partying and sex, what somebody gotta do
To get some conscious rap, something that makes me think
We're on the brink of collapse and they don't care about the facts?
Let's not forget about fakes who falsify their history
All so they can appear to be G's and thugs
Glorifying drugs and the violent lifestyle
Which causes people to suffer consequences and get profiled
Rap is not a game, it's a form of expression
I guess some people did not make the connection
Now hip-hop is dying and in need of a transfusion
It may be number one but yeah, we're still losin'
This is the state of hip-hop
Everything's messed a lot
You may not believe that things are messed up
But take a look outside, hip-hop is corrupt
Rappers don't take the time to respect their idols
Or even learn the history, it makes me suicidal
Meaning crazy, how else can I explain it?
The industry's making them insane and ignorant
By feeding into their egotistical desires
Giving them cars with big rims and tires
With which they flex on Instagram thinking they're on fire
Get off that ego trip and start getting inspired
Everybody focused on that net worth
Trying to be like Jay-Z and that really hurts
Money and power combined corrupts everyone
And if you lose who you are then you become scum
We need to focus here, hip-hop's in danger
There's no time for you to express your anger
Action is what we need if we're going to succeed
Rap not for the greed but because you believe
This is the state of hip-hop
Everything's messed a lot
You may not believe that things are messed up
But take a look outside, hip-hop is corrupt
Now I'mma spit some stuff about the war at hand
Between old school & new school, what is happenin'?
I thought they would learn to get along
But instead of adapting, they're singing the same old song
It isn't exclusive, it belongs to everybody
Regardless of race, height or style, we're all compadres
Fighting for the same mission which is to make people aware
And if we got through then we know you're going to care
This isn't just music, it's a form of expression
We all have a voice to air out our oppressions
From the police to the establishment to the state of affairs
Without hip-hop, we'd probably be broken and scared
That's why we gotta stop fighting, unite as one
Maybe then will the mission ever truly be done
This is serious, we could die at any second
And the world ain't getting a blessin', we gotta focus now
This is the state of hip-hop
Everything's messed a lot
You may not believe that things are messed up
But take a look outside, hip-hop is corrupt
This is the state of hip-hop
Everything's messed a lot
You may not believe that things are messed up
But it is messed up and we need to save it
