About A Girl

Yeah
Yeah

See, she was 17
Going out and smoking weed with the dope fiends
In a phase, she just follows all her friends see
Started hanging with these older kids I let her be
But watched her closely
See she was caught up in the fun, didn't know what she's begun
Now she's fucking with a man who's already got a son
He was 35, she was still a teen
He had her sniffing coke and drinking every day of the week

About five months in, that's when shit got bad
See, she's losing her mind because she's smashing these bags
And her man can't provide for this habit she had
So she starts stealing money from her dad; she's off again
No talking to friends, she always pretends
That she's living good and happy so these convos end
But what her friends don't know is what this girl won't show
All the bruises on her body from her boyfriend, yo

I tried to tell her, but she wouldn't listen
All she says is that she loves him, and she'll never ditch him
I told her "Baby girl, you're more than this, I'm only wishing"
"That you'd escape from this lifestyle he's got you living"
She turned her head and told me "Kobie, you would never understand"
"Stop talking like you know me more than my own man"
"Besides he only ever hits me if I fuck up"
"I just really need to learn to keep my mouth shut"

I told her, "Stop right there, you think that shit sounds fair?"
"Any man that hits a woman, that's a bitch right there"
Grabbed her by the arm and told her that she's coming with me
I'm getting you off the shit 'cause I just want to see you clean
But she pushes me away and right before she runs out of sight
She tells me, "Don't you ever tell me how to live my life!"
And so she runs right back to his two-room flat
Ain't no telling her man, where she's just been at

And as she tries to relax just as much as she's able
She looks down and sees a pipe on the table
She asked what it's for, he said, "Here, let me show you"
"Put this to your mouth and as I light it let me tell you"
"See, this shit right here is way cheaper than coke"
So leans right in, and has her very first toke
She watches the flame as it turns into smoke
And I wish that I could say that this is all that she wrote

But now she's back for more, popping xanies and all
Getting higher than she's really ever been before
And I ain't seen her in months, same as her mum and her dad
I guess these drugs really fucked her up bad
See one day I was chilling, watching TV
I seen on the news that this girl's OD'd
I thought to myself "Nah, I'm just thinking crazy"
This newsman said in her stomach was a baby

It can't be, so I call and there's no answer on the phone
I rock up to the house but there ain't nobody home
So I finally call her mum and as she breaks the news
I can't help but feel the guilt I should have been there for you

(I should have been there for you)
(I should have been there for you)
(I should have been there for you)
(I should have been there for you)
