New England Sunset

Night touches down on the forest with silence
On the snow thick in the yard and beyond
All of my windows are curtained in darkness
Covering over the day that has gone

I have been trying to trace down the hours
To see what is golden and what burns away
For our moments are filled with so many things
And yet only that which is purest can stay

Gather in all my friends, Lean to one another
Look deep in your hearts to see what you have wrought
For the days slipping past like a swift running river
Are dear when you know with what price they were bought

Night touches down on the forest but its not time for sleeping
But for lighting a lamp and letting it shine
Looking ahead to the days without number
I know they are borrowed from God and not mine
