Dark All Day

Language won't abbreviate the light
That doesn't spill from the windows out there
Those darkened hearts hold passengers blindly
Like birds' nests in a watchful statue's palm
A folded finger may betray its' use
But nonetheless they lurk in shadows false
They can't perceive that different grade of light
Maneuvering reflections from the sky
Which seems to hold the answer to the prayer
For light and love and revelry everywhere
Neon vistas boiling to the touch
Our recompense signs endless disagreements
Don't assume your life is what you think
I spy upon my wilted, gendered frame
The words are starving mountains in my head
Soiled, aching, desperate for the truth
Alkaline and blinking through this haze
Ass from elbow, fighting tooth and nail
Forging weaknesses on distant hills
Without the truth our faithfulness desires
The library is stormed against their will
Dancing there in a fluttering listless palm
Which rains down on their softly dreaming heads
No comfort here can gain its pleasant charm
Abide the ghostly tendrils of my sins
Lord have mercy, I am healing still

And we watch the scenery burn down
