Through the Skyways

Drifting through the skyways
In the body of a metal bird
I can spot from my window
The hawk as it comes to fly by me

I know the gentle creature roams the sky
Quietly surveys its dominion
I long to know it

Rolling down the highways
Through the rural Dakota fields
I see the hawk it follows
Guiding and protecting me

I know the gentle gliding creature owns the sky
Calling out into the distance
I'm glad to know it

Should the day come that it leaves my field of view
(It's gone from my view)
And doesn't return before the day is through
(Day is through)
I'll know the hawk is still above me looking down
When there's no one else around
