Fabric (How Many Layers)

Wrapped up in my old thought, I've worn it so many times at this point.
I must've worn right through the sleeve.
The fabric's so thin, you might see
The tenderness I try to hide, my precious that I keep inside
The eyes draw to the thinnest part.
I'll wear a thicker coat next time.

How many layers can I wear 'til they start to weigh in?
And how many cares can I wear 'til they weave their way in?

Warmer now, but still a breeze. It makes its way right through my knees.
They start to shake and launch that tremble
Up my spine 'til it resembles
A quaking aspen in the fall: unsteady, but still standing tall,
Adjusting one way, then one more.
Protected, but still vulnerable.

How many layers can I wear 'til they start to weigh in?
And how many cares can I wear 'til they weave their way in?

The fiber's loose, the fraying parts.
Feel the tension, it's where it starts.
Outsider views accessorize what used to be only for my eyes.
So, no more share. Another layer,
Another layer, and one more layer.

How many layers can I wear 'til they start to weigh in?
And how many cares can I wear 'til they weave their way in?
How many layers can I wear 'til they start to weigh in?
And how many cares can I wear 'til they weave their way in?
