Tango to Evora - Introduction - In Her Own Words

In the 1980's, I had the privileged to compose music
For a trio of films from the national film board of Canada
Called women and spirituality
The piece of music entitled "Tango to Evora"
Was initially composed for one of those films
When they came around to assembling materials for the recording which became "The visit"
I decided to re-record it for this album
The title of the piece didn't come until I was in Portugal in early 1991
On a photoshoot for "The visit"

The photographer, Elizabeth Fearon and I went for a trip to the beautiful city of Evora
And we're listening to some of the draft tracks I had already recorded
Including this one
Somehow there was something about the personality of Evora that day
Which connected me to this piece
And I blended the Tango feel to the location we were visiting

And it's been gratifying to see how far and wide
This piece of music has been embraced
Including in Turkey, Greece, Israel and many other places
And other creative spirits would have
Set their own lyrics to the melody and made it their own
Such is the gift of music

La, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
Na, na, la, la
Na, na, la, la, la
Na, na, na, la, la
La, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la

La, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
