American Dream

Where's the life I dreamed of
All those years ago
My sunny way of living
That gave freedom to my soul

Tell me how this dream is what we're living
If I still see people sleeping in the streets
Tell me how this dream is what we're living
If I still see people working to death and barely getting by

And I have a dream
That one day
People in this nation won't fear oppression, no
And I have a dream
That one day
Working hard will be working right
And being free just means living life

So as Americans
No matter who we are
We dream and hope and love
Where opportunity is real
And life is free
Where equality is in the air we breathe

Just imagine our ideal
With equality and empathy
And whatever we feel

Langston Hughes still wrote them through art's rebirth too and changed our views
The sparks untamed when he lit that flame and he said
"There's never been equality for me
Nor freedom in this homeland of the free"

And I have a dream
That one day
People in this nation won't fear oppression, no
And I have a dream
That one day
Working hard will mean working right
And being free is just living life
