Who am I
I'm the brother that dodges corona virus coughs
The same way hopeless romantics avoid obvious obstacles
Opposing their options to
Love themselves instead
Of responding to that
"Hey big head" text
Who am I
I am no smooth talker
But I fat Thumbed my way into Ella's DMs
Pinky promised her a perfect picture
Pointed her to the Middle of my intentions
To put a Ring on it
I am 5 fingers away from holding hands with my destiny
I am killing it every season
Even when I'm off
Spring
Father of one
I wear my Dad hats like a crown
No cap
I'm fitted for this
So don't be surprised when I Snapback
I am
the topic of conversation
Different names
Same theme
I am black boy
The luxurious and cursed
My melanin attracts smiles and clinched purse
I am black man
The fetish and the fear
That bucket list item
Something to watch and listen to
But try not to get near
I am what you admire and pretend to be
Television
Has shown you lights flashing in my face
I am a bad habit you kick when lights flash behind you
I've never been good as a token
I know more Harry Potter trivia than I do NBA stats
I am Fresh
But Spades be my favorite suit
I've met love in the Club
But Diamond
Has a special place in my Heart
I am so books that I can sandbag my grammar and still keep the poem
100
Honey
Bees Bow backwards buzzing bout my boo
I am husband to a Goddess
With a soul that resembles the cosmic properties of Nebulas
Shooting stars
Full moons and galaxies
Hips
That sway like bandwagon tides
A smile
That makes you want to better yourself
I am Crown over Henny
Any day
I want no smoke
But I learned how to roll
Because 'Black Cards' are as fragile as the skin on Grandma's crispy fried chicken
I am my own worst enemy
I am my biggest fan
I believe in a Creator
But I get my gospel from hip hop
I am poet
Expressing every emotion in therapy sessions called art
I am artist
Dressed in paint raised in music shaped by film felt by vocals
With stories told by scars and ink
My thoughts
Have no direct path from my brain to my mouth
I must feel them first
Before they can pass my teeth
I am proof of my Father's hard work and justification
For my mother's hours of labor
I am Saved
Chosen
Revived
Broken
Famed
Glowing
Still
Going
I am everything you doubted
Yet I am everything I am supposed to be
I am challenge
Accepted
I am Fresh
Linen
George
And you
Are welcome
I'm the brother that dodges corona virus coughs
