The Closet

His father had a temper
Never cherished him
Never was the boys mentor
The boy always ran to his mother
For the relationship they had
Was never tethered

Jealousy and rage
Embody the father
The boy always ran to the closet
Locked the door
Sat on the floor
And
Covered his ears and never saw it
Sat silently in the closet
The screams, the fear
The abuse so near
Caused by the one so dear

The burns and bruises
The boys mother was always afraid
But she hoped one day
The boys father would change his ways
Come together as family
Oh she prayed
And so she stayed

To no avail
The boys father
Was a spirit from hell
The boy always ran to the closet
Locked the door
Sat on the floor
And
Covered his ears and never saw it
Sat silently in the closet
The screams, the fear
The abuse so near
Caused by the one so dear
Caused by the one so dear
