Traces of Eternity

I was woken by the dancing wind one dreamless night
And followed the pull of its song to the darkness outside
Where the starlight seemed to yield
To the enchanted, whispering fields
All the secrets the sky keeps concealed
In the morning

In the spell of the dewdrops suspended above the earth
I watched the emptiness condense as the night gave birth
To angels with moon-colored eyes
That swiftly lifted the deepest tides
Of my emotions to nostalgic heights

These strange traces of eternity
Taste as sweet as the illusions of the sun
That once had my young heart racing to be
The man I thought I was meant to become
But now that those illusions have disappeared
I've been learning how to grow old
With a heart worn thin by the hopes and fears
Fighting to possess my soul

And it's gonna take more than an angel's boundless pity
To pacify the thoughts rising and ebbing within me

In the light of the ghosts lined like candles along the avenue
The horizon briefly morphs into a shore I once knew
I watch the waves of my past softly sigh
As they take all I've left behind
And recede into the gentle night

These strange traces of eternity
Taste as sweet as the illusions of the sun
That once had my young heart racing to be
The man I thought I was meant to become
But now that those illusions have disappeared
I've been learning how to grow old
With a heart worn thin by the hopes and fears
Fighting to possess my soul

And it's gonna take more than an angel's boundless pity
To pacify the thoughts rising and ebbing within me
