The Light

Have you ever pondered the consciousness of rock?
Can you fathom the rate of its breathing?
Can you imagine the life of a millennium's sequoia?
And its relation to that of a magfly?
Can you imagine the earth as it burped us to life?
And how it must feel to be raped by one's own posterity?

Have you ever pondered the consciousness of a fetus?
And the safety of the warmth of the womb?
Can you imagine the sense that this is all there is?
And that mother and life are but fiction?
Can you imagine the pain a mother must feel?
When her grown child outright denies her?

Can you hear the bottom of a river flowing?
Have you ever sensed the sound of darkness?
It comes to me in the darkest hour
When the still of the night is as black as the sky
At the darkest point comes the light
