The Could've Beens

I guess the fact that things have changed so much means they can change again
I'll believe that something better is in store and maybe then
Time will tell
I will make myself believe and hope that all will be well
And that certain things can come and go

'Cause this is what I know I've got to tell myself
The only thing that's left when there is nothing left to say
Cause nothing else will ever help if I can't help myself
So I'll believe in change to keep me sane
Hope that nothing was in vain
Oh someone help me try to start again

Maybe think back to the past and of how crises were resolved
Though it isn't always pretty, let them naturally unfold
Some things will last, though you don't always know which ones they'll be
Once the worst has passed, life will turn out unexpectedly

'Cause this is what I know I've got to tell myself
The only thing that's left when there is nothing left to say
Cause nothing else will ever help if I can't help myself
So I'll believe in change to keep me sane
Hope that nothing was in vain
Oh someone help me try to start again

The thing that bothers me the most is thinking of what could've been
The should've dones, the could've seens
Could've trieds, the should've saids
Keep building up inside my head
Oh someone help me look around instead
And get out my head

Maybe then you'll understand that strangely and ironically and even paradoxically
The things you were so certain of
Sure that they would always be
Turn around so unexpectedly, eventually
This is what I tell myself, 'cause only I can help myself
No matter what I'll try to start again, start again
