Keep on reaching high
With your expectations low
So when you're disappointed
It's not too tough to swallow

When you're let down
Your tears start to show but
You shut down those feelings
Everyone else can never know

That is the norm so
You must lock them in your safe
Never talk about it
As you mask your swelling pain

Hidden under a mask
You avoid those troubled signs
So keep it pushin
Even though you're in overdrive

When you get composed
You want the attention back
But only when convenient
If not, they can have it back

This is a vicious cycle
Which happens on the daily
You steer clear of the tension
While you navigate to safety

You try to snap out of it
While you go about your day
But not thinking much of it
As the stress is there to stay

But if you grab control
And give it some attention
You can become aware
And that would ease some of the tension

The more we reflect
We realize it's a burden
We think on the past and
We second guess for certain

It makes us inefficient
And creates our indecisions
The focus is blurry
So we must take aim of our mission

We can't ever grow
Since we're stuck in this routine
So it keeps us rooted
And forced to be unseen

We must branch out
And take time for reflection
Since we must grow
Through this time of introspection

In order to improve
We must shift our perspectives
We can make some gains
But we need to change objectives

Display raw emotion
Feel comfortable in your own skin
Start to put your guard down
So you can heal within

Now you're at center stage
But never close the curtain
If you doubt yourself
You'll realize it's for certain

That we all hope for the best
But expect for the worst
Since that's what we're taught
And that's what we have learned
