Being or Becoming

You can't draw a map of somethin' that's always shiftin'
It's hard to nail down a definition when it's driftin'

And tumblin' forward in a way that doesn't lend itself
To a particularly good means of figuring things out

You can't measure a dune that's rolling through the desert
Before it has become something else to measure

Once again I take the position
Being is an empty fiction
Don't ya feel like you're always running?
Cause we're not being, we're becoming

No matter how hard you try, I think it will suffice
To say that you will never step in the same river twice

Once again I take the position
Being is an empty fiction
Don't ya feel like you're always running?
Cause we're not being, we're be-

It's like plucking a single frame
From a 3 hour film
And trying to figure it out
But a movie's not a still
And neither are you
So I'm starting to doubt
That you can name that tune
In just a single note
It's something to think about

Once again I take the position
That being is an empty fiction
Always changing, growing, running
Cause we're not being we're becoming
