Waking

There's a hole in my bed that wasn't there before
Or maybe I just never noticed it sleeping on the floor
But either way I pile mattresses till they touch the sky
I swear I try but it carries over into waking life

There's a blackbird in my chest that will not settle down
It might have been there all along but it's only singing now
It flaps its wings and paces round, I hear it in the night
I try to fight but it carries over into waking life, oh

I used to sleep and I would dream
Of magpie love and shiny things
But then I'd wake up, start my day
And all those dreams would fade away

But what if all my dreams come true
My fluttering magpie love for you
It carries into waking life
It doesn't play dead like it should

My dreams are bleeding into life
So how do I know wrong from right
I don't know if I'm in a dream
Will you promise to wake me if I'm asleep?
