Humid Halo

A flower left a footstep
On my mind and on the porch
Reassured the reckless search
For what I'm still not certain

The shade unfurling forward
Like bare feet into the yard
I, for a moment, drop my guard
And so, still, the moment smolders
And I think I've already told her

The cups we poured were spoiled
On the counter in the kitchen
Their curdled premonition
The jug expired in the finest month
Might I have that luck

I've had my heart eclipse the highway
I can stave the city's doom
I've noticed how it moves
I mean to prove it worth the strain
And that my laugh still sounds the same

Standing under a soffit the whole is profit and holier still
Is the light on the window, the humid halo of burgeoning will

And you think that the moon is lighting the room more than the hill
You might dream of water and feel you're fodder to paint on the sill
