Twenty Seven

I woke up and found myself one step closer to death today, I guess
And I wonder how I found myself here all alone in my head
As these words come to form another page slowly turns
And there's no turning back
The story goes on until the inevitable end

The crows gaze at me
With deep intent
But they'll just have
To wait a little longer than that

I woke up and found a letter of invitation to some strange club, I guess
And I wonder how it found itself here next to my bed
Attendees included all the heroes that I had looked up to at best
But I can't go yet
I got a few things left to attend

The cats stare at me
With deep intent
But they'll just have
To wait a little longer than that

The owls gleam at me
With deep intent
And the vultures swoop at me

Is it time to go?
Or is there time still left?

I woke up and found myself one step closer to death today, I guess
But with every step I see there's many still left
