Lettering

There's some people that I see
At the bar every other week
Tapping tallboy rims to downbeats
With everyone in the dark overheating
Packed in like sardines
Can we skip all the awkwardness
Can we clear the social fog and surpass all the head nods and small grins
I'm figuring out that this is harder than when we were kids
With even less common ground then
We pretended we would never get scary and big
And so
When I finally say hey at the end
What I'm really saying is do you wanna be friends

There's a rhythm and a flow to this
To keep me feeling self conscious and I can't
Remember how to go over this
Like are we just waiting for our
Turn to talk
Or can our eyes be locked
Or will all my insightful questions put you on the spot
I need to sign up for a course in making pals in your twenties
Renew a long expired license to be non-threatening and friendly
I'll try to make connections to string all the dots together
Rethink all the words I said that night to think of something better
Replay all the conversations while I'm standing in the shower
And get lost in what I should have said while zoning out for days
I'll say
Next time
Hey
Do you wanna be friends?
