Looking out the window on a winter afternoon
A cloud filled sky rolls by above a garden's shady gloom
Alone at home while gazing from the quiet of a room
You contemplate the nature of the season's winding loom

Trees stand firm in native soil roots clinging to the ground
Windblown wands of woven wood, ivy winding round
Ladder rungs young legs once climbed to chase a cuckoo call
Rock a bye my baby take care or you will fall

A heart in hibernation holds a secret in its store
Autumn's fallen curtain lies mouldering on the floor
As an eaten apple - leaves behind a core
You fed on love invisible where now there is no more

Gleam off holly makes your eyes peer up and shy away
Sun glows through, gold and blue sublime light of the day
Beams stream through the window frame illuminate the hall
Project a shadow play of dancing ghosts upon the wall

Spring green vision fills your mind, a child's lively voice
Girls and boys come out to play and sport with joyous noise
Louder now and louder - until one echoed shout
Bubble bursts on rose bush thorn and blows the candle out

Cast mind's eye through time gone by what's been and gone before
Never mind what's left behind the past will still endure.
Don't know where you're going to and what you came here for

Black bird chants an evening song from dark bough out of sight
With branching arms and fingering twigs you reach out to the night
Behind your back a key turns in the door and someone calls
