Firefight In The Firelight

Some nights have passed since I was cast
Out of that market town
But with me came the ivory maiden
With hair an autumn brown
From our lust back through the dust
Our Friesian's hooves raked high
In the winds that bring again
We hear her family's cries
Our love comes at a price

We bare the heat withstand the cold
Passion here to keep us whole
I did no wrong for when we wed
Our union even God will bless
Then one dark night under star-lit lights
Glistening through the canopy above
In sickening dread we start to drown
As leaves they crackle to the ground
The roar of rifles sound

A firefight in the firelight

I took dead aim at the same man
That I once called a friend
What could I do it's me or you
His peacemaker it would not contend
But by my side there lie my bride
By our fire drenched in black
So I sign the cross then fire shots
To slip into the darkness of night
Before I bagged me the wine

There was a firefight in the firelight
I said a firefight in the firelight

Are you surprised that this life
You have yours and I have mine
I gamble steal cheat and lie
And father's daughters better hide
It's why I'm oust from every town
Just twelve days west is where I'll be found

In the firefight in the firelight
In a firefight in the firelight
