Geese

I like to think we'll be
One day reborn as geese
Mate for life, swim in lakes
Guard our eggs down in the reeds
Raise up babies on the shore
Chase off dogs in the park
Fly down south every winter
When the days get cold and dark

While our plumage thins and fades
Then one day when you are gone
I'll honk my head of in the pond
Stay apart from the flock
Never leave that tiny park

Reunited as the sea
And a billion miles of shoreline
Push and pull for eternity
Your waves against my rocks
Filled with fish and thrashing sharks
Union bathed in pearly moonlight
When the nights are long and dark
