Sky-Maker

Sleep it's hard to tell asleep from waking
Paint the sky in patterns
A strand of thread that's sewn together
Made of stone and faces known

What we thought was a butterfly
You called a constellation
And put it in the sky
Gather stones with fingers that are threaded bones

Tree-shaker star-collector
Gather bones
And throw them into a speckled-sky
Sky-maker, sky-contriver
Made the sky his home

What we thought was a crocodile
You saw as constellation and put in the sky
Three red stones in the middle of our home

Sleep it's hard to tell awake from dreaming
