Wear This Face Forever

Here I stand atop a tired and lonesome mountain
Doing all I can not to fall off
While I pretend to live and die by the fountain
That feeds the lie life's built around

I can't wear this face forever
It don't fit anymore
We've got to face this world together
We're free and clear, not bound and tethered
Though we're tattered and torn
So I won't wear this face forever

Off and on I have tried painting pictures
Of what this world says I should be
But the thrill is gone and I'm not a penny richer
You know the truth don't come for free

So I'll tear this mask away
The promise of tomorrow
And let freedom fill each day
Instead of enduring hollow

I can't wear this face forever
It don't fit anymore
We've got to face this world together
We're free and clear, not bound and tethered
Though we're tattered and torn
So I won't wear this face forever
