Baobhan Sith

A long day over, the evening upon them
Four hunters seek a place to reside
A lonely old cottage, their horses tied up
Firewood and four chairs inside

They got the fire blazing, the men could now rest
One exclaimed his wish for female companionship
"Don't be ridiculous, you'd sooner shoot an arrow straight"
With laughter they roared, until the tap on the door

Open the latch, do their eyes deceive
The most beautiful maidens they'd ever seen
The hunters all scrambled, fell over their feet
"Come in for warmth, and sit beside me"

Enter they did, their green dresses a-flowing
Beside the hunters, they settled in
Before long, the maidens broke out into song
A song that was so enchanting

No invite is needed, the men all start dancing
The hunters bewitched, no they could not resist
But the oldest had his beloved back home
'Fore excuses were said, the hunter saw red

Open his chest, her talons like blades
The maiden so pleased for the life that she has claimed
He slumped to the floor, still deep in her gaze
The hunters so helpless, succumbed to the same fate

Outnumbered, the oldest recalled all he knew
Baobhan Sith's weakness of iron and sun
Hours til dawn, his weapons far from him
He fled the cottage, opting to run

The iron-shoed horses provided protection
The women called out to him to attempt flattering
Still, he's unmoving, they tried to enrage him
They brag and torment - the death of his friends

Open his eyes, East he looks upon
The faint glow was pledging the safety of dawn
He looked back to the bothy, the maidens were gone
Beneath the sunrise, the hunter did mourn

Open your ears, this warning do heed
For we do not wish for more loved ones to grieve
We must share the tale, listen and repeat
Do beware the Baobhan Sith
