Dead West

It was a dreamers country, head west, make a name
Stalwart minds tamed the prairie and shaped the plains
Fireworks filled happy eyes, young mothers held their babies tight
Those roads now lead through memories, dead west, forgotten lives

A river ran through the town, children played on muddy banks
The church house rang it's bell to call them in
Music lulled the sun to sleep and they danced under hollow skies
You can hear the strings still singing in the west if you close your eyes

Then Sunday morning came, the loyal bell, the familiar chime
But river banks were cordoned, people stayed inside
Nests were now left lonely, families split at the great divide
The lifeblood spilled into the sea and left the west behind
