Tidal Pool

For a deep and dank dark year
The currents swam
They ran so far
Then unfurled and disappeared
Underneath
Dimming stars

Now they sleep in shallow tidepools
Filling in and
Washing out
Folding soaking rooms around their beds like
Empty shells

They said, "Our homes
Lie miles away
And weeks too late
To turn around
But worn streets
That scratch against our feet
They will give way
To untouched ground
Until then, until then we still

Sleep in shallow tidepools
Filling in and
Washing out
Holding soaking roofs above our heads like
Laden clouds

Then filling every
Room with the souvenirs from
Midnight hours
And locking every door and
Walking north toward
Secret towns"
