Avalon

I will silently sit in the winter
The winter of my discontent
I see the snow falling and I wonder
How fast my body would fall

I have tried to be the blacksmith
Architect and sculptor
And forge through the fires, a body
A body, a body, a body to call my own

But this formless shape of mine
It dares to call itself a human
When it is nothing
And I am nothing

Born from dust
Happy and carefree
Until destiny meets me
And destiny breaks me
I turn to dust
Happily
I give myself to the Earth
So it could feast on me

The cherubim sitting atop the clouds
Watch over me like guardian angels
And as they cry out tears, falling down
Is that the snow I hold in my crooked paw?

And the ever-unblinking eyes of God stare
As he wonders what could've been
If I'd took the road more travelled
Or if all roads lead to our home, someday

But what use is the destination
When the path is what takes you?
Would you walk through a snowstorm or hellfire?
When the snow, it subsides, and the fire is unabading?

Fire burning
Ever so strongly
As I walk through the ashes
Ashes of who I used to be
Singe my skin off
Happily
I don't need it anymore
I only need to find me

Walking off the edge of the earth
In search of a place I may never find
The lost land fraught with ruin and hurt
Lies hidden in the weaving folds of time

And though I died, I rise again and again
A phoenix telling stories by the fireplace
A ship built and rebuilt could still be its old self again
And though I was replaced, am I still the same old me?

Those who step into the same old rivers will know
Different and again, different waters flow
As it makes its way from the deep blue sea
The same old sea harboring that which I seek

I dive deeply
Into its dark depths
I've been, many times before
Only now, I'm sure, it's right here
Beneath the dark
Sun dimming
Though I can't breathe anymore
A hand reaches out to me
And I clutched it
So tightly
I said to the mighty man
"Take me where I need to be"
And he answers
"You're back home, now, my liege
Come, follow me to the palace
We've awaited your return here."
