Dripping Wax

Winter rock rose, sun-stained windows
Pale flowing rainbows on this fog-covered floor
A face in the shade of dark noon columns
The water-pocked rock just looks on, solemn

Painted fingers smeared unseeing eyes
Drunken fingers caught in late night stupour
Bottles haunted just by empty dreams
Wishes given up to nightly steam

Only echoed laughter now wakes this dust
One forgotten scarf draped over an old chair
Smoking floarboards soaked in years of rum
And from a smoking black wick comes
Dripping wax
