Ethereal Waltz
I rode up to the green mill speakeasy,
With some boys from the southside of town
They said it's the wettest spot in the country,
Since prohibition came 'round
We were greeted by a man wearin' all black,
They called him Machine Gun McGurn
He said have fun waltzin' with the flappers,
As he sipped his liqueur
Well I ain't never box stepped,
Or moved round in three-quarters time
So darlin' would you teach me,
How to waltz tonight?
I could tell that she had some rhythm in her,
By the way she gave me her hand
And I got awfully nervous because,
I'm usually not one to dance
I've never seen feet move as gracefully,
As hers gliding all round the room
And after all that trying to keep up with her,
I finally knew what I was doin'
The band broke into an ethereal waltz,
As we floated right cross the floor
Through all the smoke and the noise and people,
We waltzed right out the door
With some boys from the southside of town
They said it's the wettest spot in the country,
Since prohibition came 'round
We were greeted by a man wearin' all black,
They called him Machine Gun McGurn
He said have fun waltzin' with the flappers,
As he sipped his liqueur
Well I ain't never box stepped,
Or moved round in three-quarters time
So darlin' would you teach me,
How to waltz tonight?
I could tell that she had some rhythm in her,
By the way she gave me her hand
And I got awfully nervous because,
I'm usually not one to dance
I've never seen feet move as gracefully,
As hers gliding all round the room
And after all that trying to keep up with her,
I finally knew what I was doin'
The band broke into an ethereal waltz,
As we floated right cross the floor
Through all the smoke and the noise and people,
We waltzed right out the door
