Icarus

I waited for the light to come back again
So I could study you
But ever the enigma
You clung to the shadows, made friends with the umbra
Now I realise that darkness came from the root of me

I made an artform out of inertia
A hideous homage to everything I've lost
It's a melted wax collage of each successive downfall
And a portrait of a man who flew too close to the sea

It feels a lot like history's repeating
But the only common thread is me, prostrate and bleeding
The scent was caught again, the fox eviscerated
But the hounds they only maim, they never end the misery

We both walked into that maze
But you were the only one to leave
And now
I know I never will

I waited for the light to come back again
So I could worship you, an Arian Enigma
I know that I'm diseased, emotionally infertile
So I'll spend this night alone, with my wings lost to the sea
It's just another night alone in this maze I built of fear
I'll spend every night alone, until I find a way out of here...
