October Promise (Copper Gate Version)

What you get is what you see on these sandy sublime streets
Crying out something I don't know or understand
When the summer fades to fall, one can hear the bluejay's call
Sweetly as golden leaves spin round about the land
The breeze blows about, a noose 'round old time's neck
And I wonder if I'll ever make it back
So I'll try to write this down, from my perch beside the bay
Maybe someone will hear what this old soul's got to say

Colored kites burn in the wind, and the lanterns glow again
Calling out welcome home signs to the traveler
But the wand'ring man in me, needs to find humility
Before I come back to this quiet place again
I love to play the martyr, the hero carrying fate
But I hate to be the man who sits and waits
I'm a puppet on a line, marionettes strung round my spine
A kaleidoscope of shadows haunt my way

As the days go by, and by, I breathe a silent sigh
I recognize life apart from you's simply a lie
And as surely as I stand, I am coming back again
And I'll find peace in you when sorrow's met its end
