Lone

Alone is what the Devil said
When the angel walked away
He fell into the brightest cave
But found no light instead
Foolish, foolish
A creature came with fire
That was too strong for his taste
He let it lick his wounds
So that his cries won't be amiss

The angel felt her flowers wilt
And the sky turned dark and grey
She heard all of his cries
But pondered once in vain
The Devil screamed and fought
But still all effort came to naught
Her face was all that showed itself
In his red and black and drought

The angel kept her thoughts at bay
And wanted to do right by him
She brought along a precious fruit
And a mirror she possessed
The fire in the cave she went
It burst in red and painful heat
But once his eyes laid on her
Then the fire went to rest its beak

He reached his hand out longing for
The touch, of her silky face
The mirror with one hand she took
His face she pointed out to him
His weary eyes refused to see
The Devil he turned out to be
He only wanted her to be
With him for all eternity

Her eyes, they glared so furiously
The fruit fell out of company
She turned and flew her white wings
Into skies he knew he couldn't reach
Cries of desperation reached
Her hands on her ears, came the silence
He wishes for a foolish plan
To trap her in his arms forever

Tear, after tear that fell on his cheek
Came another year
The Devil that we all once knew
His truest self bid him adieu
The precious fruit came forth
In all its glory, full, untouched
He bit into the fruit and
Sadness halted to a stop

The angel watched from clouds
He could not see from where she propped
She only wanted him to be
The Devil she'd first fallen for
His wings, black and dripping
His back, sore and tired
New vengeance then surrounded him
Newfound glory in his new name

He soared into the brightest sky
His eyes met with angel eyes
Her smile, bright and cheering
His heart, ever-soaring
Trouble, trouble
Foolish, foolish

He knew, what he must do
In her name, all he'll ever do
A tale of forbidden love
A tale of centuries alone
