Try to Imagine Them - Canadian Remembrance Day, November 11th, 2021

I walked from home and over hills
Then thought
Eleventh day
The park traversed by some each year
Would welcome me today

Removed my headphones
Next my hood
Then placed my toque in hand
To show respect as I would step
On silent hallowed land

What got to me
What pulled out tears
I'm sure it was a wreath
'Twas knocked over by gusty winds
Face down in disbelief

Upon its hook I set it right
In front of monoliths
A monument above
Behind a flag at lowered height
My ears were cold
The bench was old
I posed like a frozen stem
The winds will soon pick up again
And I couldn't remember them

Too many wars
Too many tales
So many lives snuffed out
My little mind can't comprehend
The reasons thrown about

My ears got numb
And like a park-bench bum
I posed like a frozen stem
The winds will soon pick up again
And I couldn't remember them
So I tried to imagine them
I tried to imagine them
