See My Color

The other day I saw a image it got my attention
It was a really dope pic in my honest opinion
This black kid had this white kid by the hand
Turned out he was autistic and in need of a friend
Hmm, dope as ever that this moment was caught
Magic that happens on it's own and it could never be bought
I started reading out the caption and it had me in thought
It said, kids don't see color until they are taught
A part, of me kind of sees what it might mean
And it sounds sweet as icing
But most of me just knows it ain't the right thing
I could see the problem with this quote without the Visine
Let me break it down and maybe now you'll know what I mean
You ain't got to say you don't see glaciers. or the mountains
Just to say you're showing love to the geysers, or the fountains
The world's a better place from the beauty they both depict
You say that you don't see color that sound like I don't exist
Trust me baby I am here
Dark as all the trying years
Ancestors had to weather living out they lives in fear
You shade colors, but I see them in a different light
Power is in the color and your point of view is kryptonite
I'm trying to tell it so maybe you'll understand
How you don't see the very thing that makes me what I am
Fam, shouldn't have to mute our hue for you to love us
Teach your kids about my sisters and my brothers
I need you to see my color

For real
I need you to see my color
Come on
Unh

Saturated with the magic known as melanin
Say you don't see color but the green be taking precedent
Theory that you're making up, shakier than gelatin
Pride is in the pigment player I ain't just a skeleton
Feel like that's the reason things still ain't really even Steven
Steven look at Stephon like he is way beneath him
Love my Philippine natives Eritrean queens kings
And my Haitians know we all done been through different things
Know they got unique ways out in the UK
My Samoans surely tell me stories over D'usse
Look, the point I'm trying to get across
Is my colors not a flaw
It ain't even if it's off
Quite the opposite
I'm black and I'm proud, specifically brown
Like whiskey and crown
I really hope you feeling me now cause check it
We all servants to the most high above us
Yeah we different but that's the beauty of us
I need you to see my color

For real
I said, We all servants to the most high above us
Yeah we different but that's the beauty of us
I need you to see my color

Yeah
Unh
I need you to see my color
For real
Come on
Unh
I need you to see my color
Yeah
For real
Come on
I need you to see my color
