Palme on a Night Train
- That giant tree is falling downhill
on it's own terms, it seems
- Isn't it a lovely trip, he said
- our train running through
the snowy landscape
Oh yeah
He was an old acquaintance
But I thought I'd moved on since then
- Oh well, he said - It's been a while but it's so good to
see you again
Oh yeah
I felt a sting of guilt and ordered some champagne
We raised our glasses and said
- To the common good!
And we laughed
He looked at me and frowned
- I hear you're not that involved anymore
- That's right, I said, I don't mingle that much with
society
I mean, how can I when trust is returned with distrust?
How can I?
And how can you when wit is returned with disgust?
He said - Is that where you've come to?
You shouldn't stop at the closed doors, you know
Why don't you do what you're supposed to do?
And by the way
it feels good, yeah
So good
I felt a sting of guilt and finished my champagne,
- It's getting late, I said, - let this be on me, my friend
And as I walked away I felt somehow saddened
I missed his flaming eyes, his mischievous smile, his casual style
I woke up in my bunk bed
grabbed my cell phone, feeling confused
Then I realised it was today that they would
close the case
Topping the mess... another tragic soul to blame
No proof, no breaking the spell
And now that brave prosecutor just sat there and looked like a turtle
about to hide in it's shell, oh well
Oh-oh well
But the tables have turned now
You shouldn't stop at the closed doors, you know
But why couldn't I just leave it all behind?
Why couldn't I go with the flow?
I felt a sting of guilt, I could still taste the champagne
Why couldn't I leave it behind
this true nordic crime, I dope my mind
Just like you do, who?
You! Yes you do, yes you do
The train is running through a misty town
Where will it take us?
The train is running through a starless night
Where will it lead us to?
The train is running through a misty town
Where will it take us?
The train is running through a starless night
Where will it lead us to?
The train is running through a misty town
Where will it take us?
The train is running through a starless night
Where will it lead us to?
