Tearing My Memories Down

I grew up in the Midwest
In a kind of blue-collar town that time forgets
Daddy owned a shop and had grease stained fingers
Mama did the books and was a church choir singer

I took off when I turned 18
Chasing neon lights and six string dreams
I always thought, that my hometown
Would be the one that would stick around

It feels like it was yesterday
But from the looks of it now you wouldn't know it's the same
Every time I come back somethings changed
But it's where I grew up, wrecked my truck
Learned to fight and first fell in love
After all these years almost none of that remains
Now I hardly even recognize this town
Cause they keep tearing my memories down

That old warehouse where my summers were spent
Turned into lofts for high dollar rent
Johnson's Market where we used to score beer
Now they're only selling coffee there
My old man finally had to close up the doors
And the baseball field down on 4th
It's a parking lot, for a bunch of stores
That I ain't ever heard of before

Yeah it feels like it was yesterday
But from the looks of it now you wouldn't know it's the same
Every time I come back somethings changed
But it's where I grew up, wrecked my truck
Learned to fight and first fell in love
After all these years almost none of that remains
Now I hardly even recognize this town
Cause they keep tearing my memories down

Yeah it's where I grew up, wrecked my truck
Learned to fight and first fell in love
After all these years almost none of that remains
I hardly even recognize this town
Man it breaks my heart every time I come back round
Cause they keep tearing my memories down
Tearing my memories down
Tearing my memories down
