The Devil and the Girl Who Disappeared

The Devil said to the little girl
Oh won't you follow me?
Take my hand, don't be afraid
This is your destiny
I'll give you all the things you'll want
Give you all the things you'll need
Come on girl now don't be shy
Just put your trust in me

The girl was not too quickly swayed
So the devil said only more
I'll give you a life in paradise
Anything you'll ask me for
A house, a yacht and a lot
Of the riches you'll hold dear
I only ask one little thing
Just to sign your soul right here

And so they danced, danced
Danced all night
Under the magical starlit night
And though the girl knew it wasn't right
She held that devil tight

The next day when the girl awoke
She was the devil's bride
Spoiled at the sight of worldly things
Her shoes they even shined
A ring made just for her
Put a sparkle in her eye
Gold and silver everywhere
Relieved the devil hadn't lied

And so they danced, danced
Danced all night
Under the magical starlit night
And though the girl knew it wasn't right
She held her treasures tight

The next day when the girl awoke
She was the devil's wide
Wrinkled hands replaced the ring
She reviewed the very past night
Turned to sand, the gold was gone
The diamonds, everything
An empty room, an empty life
Oh the devil was so sly

And so she ran, ran
Ran all night
Into the cold staying out of sight
But there were chains to her feet
And she was his for eternity

So let this be a lesson learned
To all of those who'll hear
The story of the devil and
The girl who disappeared
A girl who put her greed before
She put her soul or love
Just remember all things on this earth
They all will turn to dust
