Guardian Angel
Yeah that's an old Crown Vic
Rollin' like a stomach when it's sick
Hit a lick with the homies then I split
I'm with a brand new chick
Whose name is Gladys, I'm a Pip
We hit the flicks to get our kicks
And then we're posin' for a pic
I'm going to see Fr. Nick
I need some advice
Cuz I'm livin' this life and I wanna make it right
But sometimes the soul
Goes through a dark night
Like John of The Cross right
But I know it'll be so bright
When I get through the tunnel
End of the funnel and see the light
So for tonight, I light up cigars and a briar pipe
I'm in the congregation
Celebratin'
Renouncin' Satan
And all his lies, his empty works and his temptations
I'm dedicatin' my life to this consecration
To the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Mother of all Nations
And if the Pope is callin' a crusade
Then I'm leavin' my work station and hoppin' the next plane
I'm really not impressed by all these songs when I hear them
There must be a thousand with the same damn lyrics
Word for word, no, but very similar in spirit
Wait. Spirit's what they lack and I'm beginning to fear it
I bet I could write a song like yours in fifteen minutes
But when I write a song I like to put some thought in it
Put some heart in it
Put some art to it
Cuz that's how a rapper who's half smart would do it
But you're half stupid
Yeah your ass foolish
Your selfishness and egotism left you clueless
I felt a need to do this
I'm trying not to get ruthless
But I got a couple lessons to teach, get on the school bus
One. Everything you do has an effect
There's probably ten or eleven-year-olds mimicking what you've said
Rehearsing your perversities and tainted views on sex
And never learning how to treat a woman with respect
Two. You're another human like the rest
That doesn't change because of the chains of gold around your neck
Or by the fact that you can write a big old hefty cheque
The money ain't gon' mean a thing after your final breath
I ain't sayin' I'm a saint, I'm a sinner with several flaws you see
Ain't posin' as a prophet and if I'm dropping this honestly
I'm the furthest from perfect would do worse than the person probably
If I was in their birkens so I ain't judgin' them obviously
But when I see some works that take me aback and bother me
Well then I gotta fight for what's right and do it consciously
And I ain't studied theology, philosophy, no law degree
But that can't stop a man from taking a stand when he ought to be
Like for example- when did hip hop become pornography
Derision of religion in television is all you see
It's given that the world that we live in is swimmin', lost at sea
It's willin' to let innocent children suffer atrocity
And it would seem the mainstream fuels the animosity
Givin' no options, brain-washin' in its pedagogy
The press only accepts left-wing ideology
And don't you dare speak out or you'll be canceled off the scene
Take your life back, break free from immorality
The chains that hold us from living to our full capacity
And axe the distractions that add to our bad laxity
Spend some time in silence and see that you don't have to be
Weighed down and burdened and hurtin', cuz there's a better way
We gotta remember Our God in Heaven and we gotta pray
Talk to him and make some room to hear out what he's got to say
The rest of your new life could very well begin today
It's like I got lice cuz my trigger finger's itchin'
But I ain't own a gun 'cuz The Lord is my protection
I just read the daily Gospel and I'm searching for the message
But the devil try distractin' when I'm deep in my reflection like
Yikes, yikes
You know the kid be messin'
I've fallen many times, I just hope I learn my lesson
And you know the flesh is weak so I'm frequentin' that confession
Father I have sinned so I'm here askin' for a blessin'
And it's really interesting
And it really is a blessing
Even though we were deep in sin, you came through The Immaculate Conception
I'm talkin' The Mother of God, in trustin' in Her intercession
And prayin' that my guardian Angel's present
Angel of God
My guardian dear
To whom God's love commits me here
Ever this day be at my side
To light and guard
To rule and guide
Amen
