Dreams

I don't really want to give them to You
These dreams, though I know what is true
I lay them down moment by moment
On the altar, looking for
Absolution and wholeness and joy

I clinch my hands around these dreams shot through
With streaks of darkness black as coal and with longing to be known
I know the plans You have for me are good, and still
Sometimes, sometimes

It feels good to dream
Though I know it is fantasy
I know I really ought to give these up to You
So I have to ask You to take my hands, clenched as they are, in Your own
And transform this coal into diamonds, brilliant, full of
light, full of love, full of hope

I don't really want to give up these dreams, so refine them. Breathe life into me
