My Ol' Grandpa

The old story teller seen of lot of life
Tried to share the tough lessons
I was too young to hear
It just didn't seem that clear

He talked about those that came before
About what he lost in the war
A tear filled his eye
Wouldn't let me see him cry

His boy died at twenty-one
The pain of losing a youngest son
That sacrifice, boy don't forget
How this was won

All gave some, some gave all, to the end
As I think back, I wish that I could listen
To my ol' Grandpa again

Time has a way of movin' on
Faded heroes and battles won
No one knows today
Those names, are slipping away

We don't remember what they did in the past
Too busy living movin' way too fast
War movies showin' late at night
Standin' up, for what is right

All gave some, some gave all, to the end
My pappy said, he prayed, it'd never happen again
Them that never came home
The memories I'll defend
As I think back, I wish that I could listen
To my ol' Grandpa again

History's' a tapestry
Frozen for all time
Woven in a story
Hearts left still behind

All gave some, some gave all, to the end
My pappy said
Boy you gotta hear what I'm trying to say
If you don't you're wastin' that price we paid

All gave some, some gave all, to the end
My pappy said, he prayed, it'd never happen again
Them that never came home
The memories I'll defend
As I think back, I wish that I could listen
To my ol' Grandpa again
