Some Things Never Change

Mama's hair is a little longer
Since the last time I saw her
Dad's moving a little slower
Just a cost of getting older
She's busy in the kitchen
He's downstairs tinkering
It's nice to see that some things never change
The stove's been on since seven
The brown bread smells like heaven
Feed as many as we're able
Put the leaf into the table
That's just the way it goes around here
When it gets this time of year
It's nice to see that some things never change
We sit around the old piano
And sing the same old tunes
We're the finest choir that ever was
In the whole wide living room
I won't miss the city
I know it won't miss me
I'm right where I'm supposed to be
They're standing in the front door
Both waving when the horn blows
Take it easy in the snow, son
It was sure nice having you home
Don't stay away too long
I count the days that you're gone
It's nice to see that some things never change
They don't know it that I do
But I'm counting the days too
Hoping that some things will never change
Hoping that some things will never change
