Seashells

We watched the red star get swallowed by the ocean
We watched every shade parade the sky
I'd lie if I'd say
Sunsets are always this way around here
I've never seen anything like this

When I was four
I'd melt into the ocean
Searching for seashells to collect
My dad would say
Give them back to the waves where you found them
These were never meant for you to keep

Hand in hand
Feet getting burnt in the sand
Sat there till the end
Till it got dark

We got in the car
Crossed the city in an instant
To there in the driveway, sing along to Cornerstone

Sang 'bout a ghost
Felt it getting close
Locked the doors
It didn't help at all

Hand in hand
Hourglass running out of sand
Sat there till the end
Till it got quiet

Hand in hand
Hourglass ran out of sand
Sat there till the end
Till it got dark

When I was four
I looked for seashells in the ocean
Until my fingers wrinkled and my energy ran out
At the end of the day
Gave them back to the waves where I found them
Were never meant for me to keep
