The Chasm

I am looking out over the edge
Of a chasm carved from my disheveled mind
Of a chasm full of emptiness to dredge
Should I ever stop fearing what I'd find

The shadows hide nothing
The nothing hides pain
It's fresh from the morning
It's cold from the rain
The chasm is deep and the shadows are long
And the pain is still steady and strong

When will the snow come
To soften the ground
Hide the rocks and the thorns
Numb the pain and the sound
The chasm is new and could even be filled
But the river is carving it still

I know it will heal
In hope, in time
But the sun still exposes
The corrosion and grime
The chasm is daunting, but it is finite
And I will not abandon the light
