Dementia
I remember the day mum rang to say
There's something not right with your father
He went down to the pub for a pint with his friends
Like everyday just as normal
He seemed to forget that he'd already been
And he went back down again
He said my friends were not there I don't
Understand perhaps they will be there tomorrow
As day followed day he began to get worse
He'd often forget where he was
Then came the day mum rang to say
Your dad doesn't know who I am
He came back from his walk like he did everyday
And his dinner was waiting for him
He said who are you and where is my wife
And why are you here in my house
We took dad for tests his memory was worse
And we knew what the outcome would be
Your grandmother had it my dad used to say
And I'm scared it will happen to me
Then came the day he beat my mum up
It came right out of the blue
For a man who would never have hurt a flea
Why had he suddenly done this
Now my dad's in a care home he's forgotten who we are
And he can't do a thing for himself
He'll often remember the things that he did
While growing up in his childhood
We see him each day but he's rarely awake
And its took a toll on my mother
For a man who grew up so loving and kind
Oh why has it happened to him
There's something not right with your father
