Litany

Everybody knows it's a parade of sullen souls
This is what we chose when we paid before we go
Did you take his horse when you changed an honest one?
Did you smell his ghost when you claimed his only son?

What does it cost
To defy what was never shown?
What cause and cost
Would deny his blood and bones?

All of that what it could've been
But it wouldn't be
That he couldn't win was just destiny
What it could've been but it wouldn't be?

Everybody knows he's afraid of dyin' alone
And his book is closed and his friends have all gone home
Now the kids are alone, and thе saints have all been stoned
What blessеd cause could deny his blood and bones?

And what does it cost
To defy what was never shown?
Now the kids are lost
And the fires will never ever grow

Only that what if could've been
But it wouldn't be
And that he couldn't win was just destiny
What it could've been but it wouldn't be?

What worthy cause
Could define the force of laws?
What cause and loss
To deny his blood and bones?

Only then what it could've been
But it wouldn't be
That he couldn't win was his destiny
What it could've been but it wouldn't be
