Better in October

Rolling my head around my shoulders
The lights flash back I look again
Painting riddles in the corner
Until I notice them

Twisted pathways sewn behind me
Illuminating moments there
I wish I could turn off the street lights
And leave the glow somewhere

But I can't remember the last time I kissed somebody sober
I'll leave the summer
Things are better in October

It's been a fortnight off the railroad
The leaves are fading brown again
I guess it's easy to relate but
Now I feel the opposite of them

But I can't remember the last time I just let it be over
The darker nights
Things are better in October

The freezing air is somewhat calming
All wrapped up in my own affairs
The blurry images of days gone by
Can now stay there

As I sit out in the garden
And watch the navy sky fall black
A passer-by thinks it's my swan song
But I'm back on track

Cause I can't remember the last time I felt a little closure
And now I know
Things are better in October
