Spoony's Wonderful Adventure (Live at Carnegie Hall, New York, NY, 2/1/1969)

This is a song about going on the road
It's a song for jockeys and horse bettors
And carnival folks and traveling salesmen

It always reminds me of a story that, uh, my friend
David Ray told me about Ian and Sylvia
Who are that famous folk singing Canadian duo
They have a little boy who's about that big
And they call him Mr. Spoons or Spoonie, and

And, uh, one day he ran away from home
And they discovered him about an hour later after Sylvia was frantic
And they found him about three blocks up the street
From where they lived in Toronto
Carrying a mandolin case
Wearing his little bitty blue jeans and little bitty cowboy boots
And with his hands shoved down in his pockets
And they ran up to him, and they said
"Well, where are you going, Spoonie?
And he says, "Going on the road"
