#6

Backfire broke the silence in the streets last night
The mountain men were here again looked all over for a fight
Above some street two lovers sleep or make love 'til the morning
Me, I just drift through it all

On the 10th street hill at midnight, someone tripped a mine
With shakey legs all stood the dregs and wait their turn in line
A wide eyed child wanders past selling momma's missing cigarettes
He's tired and cold, and all alone, he wont sleep until the morning
He wont sleep until the morning

And in some fifth floor hallway, a drunk man stumbles home
He wakes up all his neighbors fore he passes out alone
Just below his bed frame lie his vices on the floor
He stares straight through his eyelids and reaches down for more
He stares straight through his eyelids and reaches back for more

Louder were the sirens fore the dawns first light
Placed my pen to pad again and hoped for words to write
Chance would say that better days would all soon surely come
I wrote it down drank another round hope it makes sense in the morning
Hope it makes sense in the morning
